How postman hoarded thousands of letters
DOZENS of families yesterday searched through sackloads of undelivered mail found at the home of a postman.
The man was arrested for stealing thousands of letters over the past four years.
One resident discovered he had missed out on his dream of going to Cambridge University because his acceptance letter was never delivered. Instead he is studying at Bath University.
Royal Mail has launched an investigation into the thefts and written to customers apologising and asking them to pick up their lost mail.
Items recovered include birthday presents, credit card statements and solicitors’ letters, destined for addresses in Ipswich.
One man complained after money was stolen from a birthday card. He said: “Now we are anxious to see what is in this mail we have not received.”
A 36-year-old postman has been released on police bail until December 11.
