BRITISH SOLDIER DIES IN IRAQ ATTACK
A British soldier died in an attack in Basra - MoD
A UK soldier has died following an attack in central Basra in southern Iraq, the Ministry of Defence has said.
The soldier sustained wounds in the Al Tuwaysa district of Basra, during an attack on a convoy he was travelling in.
A civilian driver was also killed after a fuel tanker was set on fire.
Not all of the dead soldier's family members have been made aware of his death and further details about him are not being released at the moment.
He was injured during an attack on a re-supply convoy he was travelling in to a multi-national force base, the MoD said.
The soldier was evacuated to Basra Palace for treatment, but later died of his wounds.
The driver who was killed was not of British nationality, the MoD said.
The soldier's death brings the total number of British military fatalities since the hostilities in Iraq began to 149.
An MoD spokesman said it was a "small arms fire" attack, but he did not have any further details.
He had no information that anyone else was injured.

SOLDIER DIES IN IRAQ.
21.05.07, 10:15pm
Another sad day for another family of a Brithish serviceman serving in Iraq. My heart goes out to his relatives. I wonder if BLIAR ,on his world tour, ever stops to give a thought to the families of the men he sent to their deaths, in an illegal war in Iraq.
It now appears that he will walk away, in June, with no conscience at all...Just the proceeds of his gifts of 10 years in office.
What a hard hearted man ( no, COUPLE) they have turned out to be. And Brown appears to be no better... Bring our boys/girls home NOW.
