Doubt leads Screen Actors Guild Awards

Drama movie DOUBT is the main contender at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards - garnering five nominations.

The picture's star, Meryl Streep, is competing for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role. She will go up against Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married), Melissa Leo (Frozen River) and Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road).

Streep's Doubt co-stars Amy Adams and Viola Davis will both be battling it out for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role award, against Penélope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Taraji P. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Kate Winslet (The Reader).

Philip Seymour Hoffman also received a nod for his performance in Doubt - he is nominated in the best supporting actor category. He will face competition from the late Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight), Josh Brolin (Milk), Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder) and British newcomer Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire).

The stars competing for the Best Actor trophy include Sean Penn (Milk), Brad Pitt (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and Richard Jenkins (The Visitor).

The nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture are Doubt, Frost/Nixon, Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

The ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on 25 January (09).
