GPS 'MAY BE TURNED INTO SPIES'

WARNING: David Davis

Tuesday May 22,2007

PLANS to force doctors and council staff to spy on the public to look for potential violent criminals would put them in danger, unions warned yesterday.

A leaked Home Office proposal would require GPs, charity staff and  public sector workers to tip off the police of any customer or patient they fear may commit a violent crime.

The move sparked outrage that innocent people would be presumed guilty and put under watch without any firm evidence.

It is seen as yet another expansion of “surveillance Britain”.

General Secretary of the GMB public services union, Brian Strutton, said: “Council workers would live in fear of recriminations. There is no question that these proposals would give rise to grave dangers for council workers.”

Shadow Home Secretary David Davis said: “Do we not already have enough of a surveillance society without recruiting council staff and charity volunteers to snoop on their customers?”

TO ALL THOSE WHO LAUGHED----------

22.05.07, 9:04am

When i said some years ago that this country would be worse than East Germany with their Stasi. We only need to rename them "Gauleiter", or "Blokleiter" !! Then it starts off -- was your Daddy at the meeting last night, little Jimmy? -- Under the new proposals, from the Kremlin at Number 10, it won't be long now before those who voice concern are carted off in the middle of the night.
