ALMOST 92,000 Eastern Europeans who came to Britain looking for work are claiming tens of millions of pounds in state handouts.
The flood of migrants cashing in on benefits is costing the taxpayer at least £102million a year.
And the bill will rise further as figures showed yesterday that 660 Eastern Europeans – more than 4,500 a week – are coming to the UK every day.
The daily count includes 116 Romanians and Bulgarians who have flocked here since they joined the European Union in January. And in a devastating attack on Labour’s open-door policy, business leaders yesterday warned that the flood of migrants is leaving hundreds of thousands of school leavers out of work.
David Frost, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, said: “The Government must understand that migration is not a long-term solution to the tragic skills shortages that many young people have.

“More than half a million people aged 18 to 24 are presently out of work, yet no one seems to notice due to the number of jobs that have been filled by so many willing migrant workers.
“This is unsustainable and we are in danger of creating a two-tier society, with many going straight from school to a life on welfare.”
Meanwhile, more than a million immigrants have been given British passports since Labour came to power in 1997. Home Office figures reveal that 1,020,510 have been given citizenship. Of those, 245,270 were children and about 278,680 were through marriage.
More than 4,500 Eastern Europeans are coming to the UK every week.
Migrationwatch UK chairman Sir Andrew Green said: “It is astonishing that we should now find that we have a million new citizens under Labour when they never indicated that they had any policy of this kind. In fact, the opposite.”
He said the impact on society was huge and it was “high time” the consequences were openly addressed.
Since eight former Eastern Bloc nations, including Poland and Lithuania, joined the EU in 2004, a total of 91,994 claims for benefits have been approved or are still being considered.
That includes 57,657 receiving child benefit and 30,749 getting tax credits, which could be between £1,365 a year for a single worker and £5,300 a year for a couple with children.
With handouts including jobseekers allowance, income support, pension credit and council housing, it means taxpayers are likely to pay at least £102million a year to support those let into Britain to work.
And the true numbers are likely to be more than 100,000 as Home Office statistics do not include the self-employed.
About 49,000 Eastern Europeans applied for employment under the Worker Registration Scheme in the first quarter of 2007, taking the total to 630,000 since 2004. But the figure is likely to be closer to 840,000 once the self-employed are included.
And the numbers are likely to grow still further after Romania and Bulgaria joined the EU on January 1. Out of 9,305 applications for worker certificates from those countries, 7,120 were approved.
The Romanian and Bulgarian figures showed that one of the main occupations given by immigrants for work permits was “circus artiste”.
For Romania it was the top occupation, with 40 applicants, and for Bulgaria it came third with 15 applicants, after senior carer and chef.
Immigration Minister Liam Byrne denied this could indicate applicants were being untruthful about their real reasons for entering Britain. Overall, at least 59,400 Eastern Europeans came to Britain in the first three months of this year – or 660 every day.
Sir Andrew said: “These figures confirm that massive levels of immigration from Eastern Europe continue unabated. “It is even more vital to reduce immigration from the rest of the world if our public services are to be able to cope.”
Westminster City Council’s deputy leader Colin Barrow warned that the levels could be the tip of the iceberg.
Councils are already in revolt amid warnings that official figures on immigration are massively below numbers arriving.
They fear that new methods for calculating the flow of migrants are flawed, leading to shortfalls in funding and rises in council tax.
Four councils have written to the Treasury to express concerns over “perverse” figures suggesting some towns and cities are seeing numerous migrants leave when, in fact, the numbers are increasing.
Coun Barrow said: “These figures are of limited value as they do not take into account those people who may have come through Victoria coach station but have not registered to work. What they do show is that over a quarter of those registering to work have done so in London.
“This would seem to contradict those recent official statistics which have reduced the capital’s migrant population by 60,000 by a stroke of their pen.”
Mr Byrne said: “It remains too soon to evaluate the full impact of the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU.”
But he went on to say: “Early indications are that our policy of restricting access to the UK’s labour market is helping to ensure that only those who have something to offer the UK are allowed to work here.”
Danny Sriskandarajah, of Left-wing think-tank the Institute for Public Policy Research, said: “The number of new arrivals from central and Eastern Europe has flattened out and the number of Romanians and Bulgarians should not be cause for alarm.”

just because they can doesn't make it right for the rude polish to come here in their millions, if they had the slightest bit of self respect they'd do it for themselves in their homeland, different mentality results in them not giving a toss about how the locals feel.sick to death of migrants and giving away what our foreparents fought for.
Of course I meant that "we don't want anything from you" :)
I forgot to add something about child benefits - Polish law forbides to take benefits both in Poland and an other country. If someone would try to claim for benefits in Poland, getting them also here, would be punished for that. And even if someone has benefits from your government (as I mentioned before, I met only one person/family claiming for them), we also pay taxes, National Insurance etc. and we are the EU citizens, so we contribute to our safety in case of problems and have a true right for them - more right that we ever want to use.
I am reading your opinions and wondering why you are so radical not knowing in fact the truth. I am certain that Daily Express doesn't inform truly either. I am afraid you will shout and laugh at me, but I have to say you something. I am a Polish professional in London, working for a recruitment agency and helping Polish people to find a job. I am living and contacting with hundreds of people coming here from Eastern Europe. And I can tell you that they are really hard workers, fully flexible for wishes of their British employers, but I don't know almost no one who would have claimed for benefits. Within these hundreds I met just a one person, living somewhere in the north of Scotland, who got a council flat for her family. ONLY ONE FOR HUNDREDS! And please, do not forget, that it is more difficult for us, people from Eastern Europe to start here. We have no money, no families to help us, we have no one who could, for example, offer us some cash for deposit and rent or to invite us for a couple of weeks. It is a serious limitation for beginners. Anyway, we can't claim for benefits immediately after arriving and we really do not come here for the benefits, just to work. But in the beginning, before we really start to earn money, we have to pay for the Home Office an amount of 90 pounds to be registered in Work Registration Scheme, that is a real discrimination against laws of the European Union (please do not forget that both United Kingdom and Poland are member states of the EU). Please consider that citizens of so-called old member states are not obliged to pay such a contribution.
Just one more thing. Did you ever think why we, mostly Polish people are so eager to relocate? Why are you living in a country that is for us almost a welfare state and Poland is not? I am afraid you do not have such a historical knowledge, but I can say that the UK had a great luck during the Battle of England in the 2nd World War. This luck was thanks to sacrifice of many Polish pilots who fighted for ypur country and won the Nazis. They were not the only fighters, but they contributed most. But what the British government did for us few years later? They let the Soviet Union to include Poland into the communist block. Real loyalty to the alliant, wasn't it? And for over forty years we had no chance to build the welfare in our country as you did. And even now we don't want nothing from you except the chance to live and work here. But we get also untruth and painful words and opinion. Before you say such opinions, please rethink it twice or more, because you might be very, very wrong.
When you verify the fact that married immigrants coming in from Europe are paid their CHILD BENEFITS in their country of origin!! Yup, arrives here, claims, and gets child benefit paid out in Poland or where-ever! But what can i say? i'm a "racist" or other "ist" or "obic" or "ism" for pointing this out. Wonder if i'll be charged with spreading "alarm and despondency"??!!! - That would be under the terrorism act of course. Got to prevent the peoples from speaking out you see.
Conservative Governments have ignored such important issues, in fact they have attempted to manipulate and distort the facts. The truth will out in the end, and it appears the cracks are beginning to show. This is a real important issue and is one that should be addressed with urgency. To many British people have had to suffer, whilst the Government donates funds to the African money pits, to ease poverty. When Poverty issues have increased here in the UK.
It's about time those on the gravy train started looking around them and got in touch with reality.
I have not voted BNP, but they now have thousands of members and are gaining in local councils, surely it should be asked why?
