Emile Heskey

Thursday January 1,2009

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has been given a lift by Emile Heskey.

The England striker could be back in action for Wigan sooner than expected, despite picking up an injury against Bolton on Sunday.

It was feared the 30-year-old would face a lengthy spell on the sidelines when he pulled up with a hamstring injury in the 1-0 Barclays Premier League victory at Bolton. However, a scan has revealed no serious damage and he could return in next Sunday's match against Tottenham at the JJB Stadium.

Latics manager Steve Bruce said: "I am hopeful Emile will be okay for the following weekend."

Before then the teams meet in an FA Cup third-round tie to concern them, with Friday's match taking place at White Hart Lane.

Apart from Heskey, goalkeeper Chris Kirkland will sit out the cup match because of a groin problem, while midfielder Lee Cattermole is suspended.
