TILSON: Out to embarrass Chelsea

Friday January 2,2009

SOUTHEND boss Steve Tilson is planning to put Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari under even more pressure tomorrow.

Brazilian Scolari is battling to prevent his first season in England from turning into a nightmare.

Chelsea staff and players held showdown talks on the training ground following last week’s 2-2 draw at Fulham and striker Didier Drogba has once again claimed he is unhappy.

Having already been dumped out of the Carling Cup by Burnley, Scolari knows an FA Cup repeat at home to League One makeweights Southend would be nothing short of disaster.

But Tilson is determined not to give him an easy ride.

He said: “Funny things happen in the Cup. Although we are away from home and we know there is a big difference between us and Chelsea, anything could happen on the day and we aren’t going there for a day out.

“What we don’t want to do is go there, start slowly and get humiliated – that would do no one any good. So we will have a go. We are there to win a football match, not make up the numbers.”

Tilson admitted he was “jealous” of Scolari for having such riches at his disposal even though that also brings with it a heavy weight of expectation.

He said: “Scolari has a fantastic record and is managing one of the best clubs in the world. He has got a great job, so I’m jealous.

“But expectations from the fans and the owner are incredible there and when you have spent as much as they have, you are always looking to win the league.
