MIDWIVES' PAY REVOLT

Story Image

Patricia Hewitt has come under fire

Friday May 25,2007

HEALTH Secretary Patricia Hewitt came under renewed pressure yesterday after midwives made an unprecedented call for industrial action.

Royal College of Midwives members’ anger over a pay deal boiled over at their Brighton conference. Less than 24 hours after listening to a speech over maternity closures by Ms Hewitt, delegates voted to discuss balloting for industrial action. It is the first such move in their 125-year history and follows the Royal College of Nursing’s decision to ballot members over industrial action.

Yesterday Ms Hewitt tried to make amends for the fiasco facing junior doctors by announcing 200 extra training places, with more “temporary” posts in the pipeline. But doctors said 12,000 junior medics may still be left without a job in August.

What do YOU think? Should Hewitt just give up and go? Comment NOW on Have Your Say.

BENEATH CONTEMPT

26.05.07, 11:53am

Incompetence does appear to be a necessary qualification to serve under BLIAR, the only way an idioit can feel good is to surround himself with bigger idiiots to boost his self esteem.

It works too look at the way he prances about with Queen CHERRY on his arm he obviously thinks he is the best thing since sliced bread, when in reallity he is to the UK population what miximatosis was to bunny rabbits!
