Lennon's sister knocks peace duo

The sister of John Lennon has, somewhat ludicrously, hit out at Sir Bob Geldof and Bono, claiming her late brother would have done more to promote world peace than the two of them put together had he lived.

Julia Baird believes the two crusading rockers have only been able to hog the limelight as global campaigners due to Lennon’s absence.

“People like Bono and Geldof have only been able to take centre stage as they have because John’s not here,” insists Cheshire-based Julia, whose recent memoir about Lennon Imagine This is to be filmed, starring Kristin Scott Thomas as Lennon’s aunt Mimi.

Julia, who is Lennon’s half sister – they shared the same mother, also Julia – adds: “John’s hero was Gandhi, which not a lot of people know and he would have been heading in that direction.

“There’s no way he would have kept out of world affairs. He would have been against the war in Iraq. He would have been campaigning, protesting and marching. He was not the type of person to sit back and do nothing.”
