PM MUST STEP ASIDE NOW, SAYS MAJOR
Sir John Major joined calls for Tony Blair to step aside now
Tory former Prime Minister Sir John Major has joined calls for Tony Blair to step aside straight away to allow the Chancellor to take over.
Comparing Mr Blair's final weeks with the two-year farewell tour of an Australian soprano, he told the Guardian: "He is in the middle of the longest farewell since Dame Nellie Melba quit the stage.
"It's known that the present prime minister is going; it's certain who will be replacing him; I can't see any reason for delay - it is not a presidency."
Sir John, who was ejected from Downing Street in the 1997 landslide that brought Mr Blair to power, said a rapid changeover was "constitutionally desirable".
Congratulating Mr Brown on becoming PM-in-waiting, he warned: "As chancellor he didn't have to peace-keep between the warring factions in his party, as prime minister he will.
"I will watch with interest."
The former PM and the next one are both appearing on Saturday in separate events at the Hay Literary Festival in mid Wales.
IT IS NOT A PRESIDENCY?

John Major got next to nothing right when he was Prime Minister, (Black Wednesday and "Back to Basics" come straight to mind) but since he left Downing Street, the Spitting Image underpant-man landed became the European Chairman of Carlyle, the largest private equity firm in Washington, DC. This corporate gobbler’s attraction for top blokes is legendary. No less than former President, George Bush senior, had his snout in the trough as world-wide Chairman until 2003 and the Saudi Arabian relatives of Osama Bin Laden were also once investors. Carlyle owns controlling or partial interests in various military contractors and, as such, has snapped up several juicy bits of the UK’s Defence real estate that Tony B I-wanna-job-with-Carlyle thought it best to privatise. Anyway, as regards the grey wallet stuffer's "it is not a presidency" comment, where, apart from the bum of the global bloodsucker, has he been this last 10 years? Of course it was a Presidency! Or perhaps it was more of a Chairmanship, along the lines of Chairman Mao type thing. Whatever it was, it wasn't the least bit like anything that went before. Personally, I preferred the grey, uninspiring, cloddish, downright useless type of PM. The lying, cheating, warmongering, megalomaniac, "I am the new Jesus", presidential type wasn't altogether Kosher. Oops, got that last bit wrong, didn't I?

TONY BLAIR TO GO!
26.05.07, 8:35pm
Of course it's time for Tony Blair to retire, but Sir John Major is hardly the one to criticize as he was pretty hopeless himself, and now the Conservative party have once again selected another Joker to lead them into the next election!
Pitty people such as Enock Powel are not still around, now there was a man with abundant inteligence and forsight! With somebody like him as PM the country would not be in the mess it is today with all these illegal migrants swamping the country! Of course, all is not lost, we still have the BNP around to sort the mess out!

HE SHOULD HAVE GONE BEFORE NOW...
26.05.07, 1:58pm
I think the only reason that Tony has stayed on is so he can deliver what he promised to his EU "friends", the UK on a plate!
He will sign the treaty to give away the last of our sovereign rights at the EU meeting at the end of June, in the hopes he will become the first EU President.
The man is totally corrupt and a traitor to boot!

BLAIR SHOULD STEP ASIDE
26.05.07, 11:47am
This is the normal script for New Labour with their over inflated ego. You only have to look at the 'two jags Prescott' debacle.
Blair reminds me of an actor on a stage, who after a very bad performance continues to come back to the stage for an encore, even though the audience has gone home!
