Two years for burglar found naked in chimney

A BURGLAR who got stuck up a chimney and was forced to strip naked to free himself has been jailed for two years.

Daniel Davies took off all his clothes in a desperate attempt to wriggle free.

But a fire crew had to be called to release him after a delivery driver heard someone crying for help at 5:30am.

Rescue workers dismantled the chimney breast by pounding at it with lump hammers by a Tesco Express branch in Wigan.

After being released, the 20-year-old tried to avoid further humiliation by telling police that he had been hiding in the chimney to avoid drug dealers.

But police had the last laugh when it was revealed that nothing of value could have been stolen because the chimney was above some disused offices, rather than the actual store.

Sentencing Davies to two years in a Young Offenders’ Institution, Judge Bruce Macmillan told him: “Were this matter not so serious the facts would be decidedly comic.”
