Kate Winslet tipped for Oscar glory
KATE Winslet was tipped for Oscar glory today after receiving a nomination for Best Actress.
The British actress, who won two gongs at the Golden Globes and has been nominated for two BAFTAs, will go head-to-head with actresses Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie and Melissa Leo for the top accolade.
It will be the sixth nomination of the 33-year-old's career, but she is yet to take a statue home.
The shortlist for the prestigious awards ceremony, which is in it's 81st year, was announced in Los Angeles today by actor Forest Whittaker, who won Best Actor for The Last King of Scotland two years ago.
Leading the awards was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with 13 nominations, including a Best Actor nod for Brad Pitt.
Mumbai-set Slumdog Millionaire, which has taken Hollywood by storm with four Golden Globes and 11 Orange British Academy Film Awards nominations, followed with 10, while Milk and The Dark Knight landed eight each.
The announcement also saw Heath Ledger nominated for a posthumous Oscar - exactly a year after his death.
The Oscars will be awarded at a ceremony on February 22 in Hollywood.
