Franklin puts career on hold 'for a while'

Soul queen ARETHA FRANKLIN has announced she is planning a break from performing after pulling out of an appearance at a U.S. jazz festival.

The Respect hitmaker was scheduled to appear at the forthcoming New Orleans Jazz Festival, scheduled to take place in Louisiana during April and May (09).

But she has cancelled her slot, telling event producers she is planning a hiatus from singing.

Organiser Quint Davis says, "She decided not to do any more work for a while."

But Franklin assured concert bosses she wants to continue to support the annual festival.

Davis adds: "She's made it clear that New Orleans and the festival are important and that she would like to be a part of this and raising the spirit of New Orleans."

Franklin has been invited to perform at the festival next year (10).
