BROWN: Poised to phil

Thursday May 31,2007

WES BROWN is in line to face Brazil as coach Steve McClaren holds Phil Neville back for the trip to Estonia.

McClaren is ready to field different teams in the games against Brazil tomorrow, and the Euro 2008 qualifier next Wednesday.

Manchester United defender Brown could start at right-back in a 4-1-4-1 formation for England’s first game at Wembley with Tottenham’s Ledley King deployed in a midfield anchor role.

England boss McClaren is then preparing to rip up that blueprint and revert to a 4-4-2 system for the trip to Tallinn, which would see Alan Smith bolster the attack alongside Michael Owen.

Neville could return at right-back as McClaren opts for experience in a game he must win to keep hold of his job.
