Britain must stand up for its time-honoured values

BEFORE mass immigration got under way in the middle of the last century, Britain was a country blessed with a cohesive culture.

It isn’t now. Immigration, in itself, is not to blame for the nation’s transformation into a land where rival communities with nothing in common live cheek by jowl. Indeed, many newcomers from ethnic backgrounds have been delighted to adopt the British way of life and have added greatly to it.

But the failure of our country’s ruling elite to make this a requirement for all newcomers has sent a disastrous signal to extremists who do not wish to integrate.

Things have now reached a point where some Muslim schools ban such pillars of British life as chess, Shakespeare and even the very idea of women’s equality.

According to the highly respected thinktank Civitas, many Muslim schools in Britain are “creating a closed environment which means children will live in a surrogate Pakistan or Bangladesh at home and school, even though they actually live in Bradford or Birmingham”.

This is a disastrous state of affairs, meaning young Muslims are bound to grow up confused and alienated. Experience tells us that some will become the Islamist terrorists of tomorrow.

It is high time that Britain was reclaimed for British people of all races. Those engaged in a cultural war against timehonoured British values should be given a final opportunity to change their ways.

If they refuse they should be pointed firmly in the direction of countries that subscribe to their warped beliefs and sent packing.
