Channel 4's Dispatches programme said he flew from Royal Lodge in Windsor to Shoreham in West Sussex where he opened a newly-restored toll bridge. A first-class rail ticket would have cost £90, it added.

It is the latest revelation about the flying habits of Andrew, who has been dubbed "Air Miles Andy" for his use of planes and helicopters.

In February last year he organised a private jet for a trip to the US, at a reported cost of £100,000.

And in 2007 he spent an estimated £6,000 on a jet to take him to a golf tournament, and also used a royal squadron aircraft to fly to a family skiing holiday in Switzerland.

Details of Andrew's helicopter flight, which happened in October last year, are broadcast in Dispatches.

He was apparently accompanied by a police officer and a personal secretary.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said the helicopter had been used because of "security and timing" concerns.
