LIVERPOOL IN CHAOS AS PARRY SET TO RESIGN

Friday February 27 2009

LIVERPOOL chief executive Rick Parry is set to leave the club at the end of the season, it was reported today.

Parry's departure will throw the club into further chaos after manager Rafael Benitez was rumoured to be on the verge of quitting the club earlier this week.

The 54-year-old has been at the club for almost 11 years but suffered a breakdown in his relationship with joint owner Tom Hicks.

Last April Hicks asked him to resign, a move Parry branded "offensive".

He sided with co-owner George Gillett, who refused to back Hicks' request, but as the relationship between the two Americans has grown increasingly strained over the last year, Parry's position has become more unstable.

Speaking today, Benitez insisted that both parties are focused on the task ahead.

He said: "We have three months now of very, very important games so we must concentrate on that. We must be positive, work together and do what is best for the club."

"In terms of the personal relationship it has been good, because we both want the best for the club.

"I do not see the situation as a power battle. The owners have decided to do this, now we both have to work together. I am sure that Rick, myself and the owners will do this until the end of the season."

It is reported he has been negotiating a pay-off over the past fortnight.

The club has yet to confirm Parry's departure.
