SHOULD WE SAVE THE SPORTS DAY?

A young Prince William gets ready for his sports day

Sunday June 3,2007

BRITAIN'S schoolchildren are rediscovering what it's like to be winners - and losers - for the first time in decades.

After years of politically correct mumbo-jumbo frowning upon children beating classmates, they are starting to be encouraged to be competitive again.

With investment of more than £1.5billion in sports in schools, children are being taught to be resilient and accept they will not win everything in life.

So do you think competitive sport is important for kids? Should we support sports days because they teach kids how it feels to lose? Or is it better to protect our children from competitiveness and teach them how to work together instead?

SHOULD WE HAVE A SPORTS DAY?

Of course we should. It's an essential part of growing up for the youngsters to have a competitive spirit to encourage and challenge each other, otherwise they will never be prepared for life in this competitive and challenging world of ours.
