VIDEO: Jade ‘on precipice’ as nation looks on

JADE Goody was “on the edge of a precipice” last night, following an emergency call-out to her home.

Jade is desperately ill Jade is desperately ill

The cancer-stricken celebrity sparked an alarm after her pain made her become delusional and paranoid in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Once again, new husband Jack Tweed was the only person able to soothe her.

A duty nurse was forced to call him at his motherís home, where he has been ordered to sleep as part of his parole conditions, when Jadeís condition began to cause serious concern.

Speaking yesterday, her publicist Max Clifford said: ìShe was in a bad way last night, she was panicking.

ìThe nurse was obviously concerned. Her mother was there, but they werenít able to do anything so the nurse decided she should call Jack.î

Tweed, 21, was given permission to break his curfew for his wedding night, and is also allowed to leave the house in cases of emergency.

A further change in his bail conditions allowed him to spend last night with his new wife.

It is not the first time he has come to her rescue. Jade suffered a similar attack three weeks ago, after a nurse accidentally altered the balance of the cocktail of drugs the celebrity is forced to take every day. The mother of two woke up panic-stricken in the middle of the night, and her nurse was unable to calm her.

It was Jack who managed to ìbring her backî, said Mr Clifford. He explained: ìJack really is the only one who has that magical effect on her. Itís down to the deep love they share for each other. She just needs him there when she finds herself in that state.

ìHe went over and calmed her down and she went to sleep. She settled down and had a comfortable night. Sheís very weak, sleeping a lot of the time, but sheís not in any pain. Sheís in as good a position as possible.î

Asked whether Jade had been on the verge of death, he replied: ìShe has deteriorated. She is very weak. The answer is, who knows? We are on the edge of a precipice.î

Mr Clifford said she was glad to be home and had spent the previous two days with friends as well as her husband and sons.

Yesterday her mother, Jackiey Budden, joined Jack in keeping Jade company. Her two sons Bobby, five, and Freddy, four, were said to be with their father, Jeff Brazier.

Her condition has deteriorated drastically since her wedding to Jack, a fortnight ago. Last week she was too weak to leave Londonís Royal Marsden Hospital, where she was recovering from a last-minute bowel operation, and the couple were forced to abandon plans for Jade and her sons to be baptised near their home in Essex.

Instead, the service took place in the hospitalís cramped chapel, in a ceremony attended by 30 close friends and family.

Jade was wheeled to the chapel in what was expected to be her last public outing.

Pictures of her lavish, fairytale wedding to Tweed, which took place at Down Hall Manor, near her home in Ongar, were featured exclusively in OK! magazine, which sold millions of copies as readers tried to share her special day.

More than 900,000 viewers have been watching Jade, the Living channelís fly-on-the-wall documentary made by friend and producer Kate Jackson.

Living paid an estimated £250,000 to film the wedding, though it has not been broadcast yet.

Jadeís very public battle with terminal cancer has raised awareness about the need for regular health checks.

Last night it was revealed that the ìJade effectî could herald a Government U-turn on the minimum age of screening for cervical cancer.

Routine checks for women under 25 were halted in 2003 because cervical cancer is very rare at that age. But campaigners want England to match the rest of the UK, where women can begin having smear tests at 20.

They claim it would also teach many young women about the importance of safe sex.

Interest in Jade has extended to the United States, where chat show giants ranging from Oprah Winfrey to Larry King have been vying for interviews.

ìShe has achieved so much by simply being herself and telling people just how it is. Thatís the most refreshing thing about Jade ñ her honesty,î added Mr Clifford, who claims Jadeís story would make perfect material for a Hollywood film.

Her plight has also brought support from stars of Big Brother, the show that originally brought her to the public eye.

Big Brother host Davina McCall said last night: ìObviously my heart goes out to Jade and her family and her boys ñ and her mum because I always think itís so hard for mums as well. You can never prepare yourself to lose your baby before you and I feel very sorry for Jackiey as well.î

McCall hosted the Big Brother 3 show in 2002 which propelled Goody to stardom.

She was also on hand to interview Goody after her ill-fated appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007, when thousands of people complained about the treatment of

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at the hands of Goody and others.

But yesterday Miss Shetty said she had spoken to Jade on the phone and hoped to fly from India this week to see her.

A friend said: ìSheís really hoping to get to see Jade one last time.

ìShe couldnít go to the wedding because of filming commitments in India and would love to see her again if she is well enough. It all depends how Jade is feeling.î
