Vinnie's son is the real hard man

VINNIE JONES made his name as a hard man both on and off the screen – now his son has shown he is a chip off the old block by excelling in the Army.

Just a year after joining the Household Cavalry, Aaron Ellis-Jones is to be given the honour of taking part in the Queen’s Birthday celebrations next month.

The 18 year old will join fellow soldiers and officers as members of the Life Guards Regiment taking part in Trooping the Colour.

Speaking last night, the Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star said: “When I look at what my son has done, it’s just incredible. It’s a massive honour. I’m so proud of what he’s achieved.”

Vinnie, 44, who now lives in Los Angeles, made the trip to Britain last August to watch Aaron’s passing out parade at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

“It was very emotional,” he said. “I’ve done a few things in my life and he’s starting out in his and it’s probably bigger than anything that I have ever achieved so I’m very proud of him. This is a lad who is going to protect our country so I’m especially proud of him.”

The actor was just a teenager himself when he tried to join up during the Falklands War in 1982 but was turned down because a friend he was with had a criminal record. He went on to become a renowned footballer, representing Wimbledon, Leeds and Chelsea along with international caps for Wales.

Many more people will know him now as the tough-guy star of films such as Guy Ritchie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, his movie breakthrough, Gone in Sixty Seconds and Mean Machine.

Scrapes with the law have followed him throughout his personal life, however, and now he is awaiting his fate after his latest hit, X-Men: The Last Stand, led to a brawl in a South Dakota bar.

Vinnie is accused of taking offence and attacking two men after they pointed to him and called him “that guy from X-Men”.
