GORILLAS WHO FOUND LOVE ONLINE HAVE WELCOMED FIRST BABY

Buu and Damisi with their son

Thursday March 26,2009

By Nikki Barr for express.co.uk

TWO gorillas who found love through an animal matchmaking site have welcomed the birth of their first son.

The two Western Lowland gorillas were paired through the European Gorilla Stud Book - an online database for gorillas - by match-making zookeepers at Chessington Zoo who were desperate to find a mate for their female gorilla, Buu.

Damisi was eventually found in Paignton Zoo and the happy couple were brought together last summer.

Keepers initially feared the 13-year-old male would be too boisterous for Buu - who is a feisty character herself - but the pair hit it off straight away.

Gorilla Keeper Michael Riozzi said: “Buu is a fantastic first-time mum and their baby is a welcome addition to our group."
