Maths teacher Mike Barile, 51, was found guilty last December of grabbing a 15-year-old boy by the jumper and threatening to throw him “through a blackboard”.

He has been told he has been fired by Dundee City Council education officials and is now awaiting a letter confirming his dismissal.

Mr Barile, who has been forbidden from speaking to the media, still faces a separate inquiry by the General Teaching Council for Scotland, which has the power to ban him from the classroom.

Since the court case, Mr Barile’s home has been targeted by teenage vandals and has been put up for sale.

The teacher, who is appealing against his criminal conviction, was admonished by the sheriff because of the abuse he had suffered at Lawside Academy in Dundee and his use of minimal force.

The timing of the education department’s disciplinary hearing raised some eyebrows as Mr Barile’s appeal against his conviction has yet to be heard. The council’s proceedings were heard over several days at Kingspark School in Dundee, just 500 yards from the teacher’s home, and included evidence from now-retired education director Anne Wilson.

During his trial at Dundee Sheriff Court, Mr Barile was told that he would not have been brought before the courts had he not been a teacher.

The trial heard that the maths teacher lost his patience after pupils told him to “f*** off” and called him a “walking penis”.

Sheriff Charles Macnair said: “Both of these assaults were minor, and had it not been for your position as a teacher, I do not consider that you would have been subject to criminal prosecution.

“I do accept that on the two occasions, you were subject to extreme abuse by the two young men.

“The force you used was minimal , and I take into account that this is going to have a very serious impact on your future career.”

He added that, because of the behaviour of the two pupils and the teacher’s previously good record, he had decided to admonish him.
