Hamas PM to address UK protest

Protesters are to gather in London's Trafalgar Square for a demonstration against 40 years of Israeli control of the Occupied Territories.

British and Palestinian politicians and campaigners are taking part in the event to mark the anniversary of the Six Day War when Israel seized the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Palestinian prime minister Ismail Haniyeh, of Hamas, will address the gathering by video.

Those present will include the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem, Riah Abu El Assal, and Mairead Corrigan Maguire, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the "Peace People" in Northern Ireland in 1976.

Veteran campaigners Bruce Kent of CND, Labour MP Jeremy Corbyn and Green MEP Caroline Lucas will also be taking part.

The protest is organised as by the "Enough" coalition - a group of trade unions, political parties and religious groups calling for an end to the occupation.

The London demonstration is intended to be part of an "international day of action" marking the anniversary of the occupation, organisers said.
