BY GEORGE! IT'S A DAY TO CELEBRATE BEST OF BRITISH
Flag-waving families turned out in West Bromwich yesterday
By Anil Dawar
PROUDLY clutching their red and white flags, thousands of men and women turned out yesterday to celebrate the best of British.
In the warm spring sunshine huge crowds celebrated St George’s Day five days early and also joyously welcomed home 120 brave Gurkha soldiers from war-torn Afghanistan.
The parade in West Bromwich, West Midlands, saw 20,000 people line the streets. A flock of white doves was released by the Support Our Troops group at the start of the two-mile walk to mark England’s patron saint.
Organiser Trevor Collins, from the Stone Cross St George Association, said: “The response has been overwhelming.”
And in Manchester city centre the streets buzzed with people singing patriotic songs. Lord Mayor Mavis Smitheman led a procession of famous figures from English history.
And hero war veterans waved from an open-top bus. Edwina and Phil Bailey, from Burnage, brought their two-year-old grandson Zak. Edwina said: “It’s a lovely tradition to pass on.”
Meanwhile, loyal troops from the 2nd Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles were given a heroes’ welcome on their return to barracks in Folkestone, Kent, from Helmand Province.
The soldiers were all presented with traditional white khada garlands in recognition of bravery during the tour. Sadly, two of their men were killed by Taliban rebels.
BY GEORGE! IT'S A DAY TO CELEBRATE THE BEST OF BRITISH

I was astounded to read, and not a little offended , that St. Georges day is considered by The Express to be a day to celebrate the best of British. It seems the politically correct brigade who seem to hold sway in much of our media these days are determined that we English can only celebrate our national identity during certain sports events such as the world cup or cricket test matches. It seems there is no problem affording the Scotts and Welsh their national identitys, indeed they have their own assemblys, yet over the border in England it seems their is an insistance we are British first and formost and our English nationality becomes buried in Britishness. We have a Bank of England, a Church of England and our common language is English, so please let us be English. I well remember when all our manufactured goods proudly displayed "Made in England", I also well remember the Austin car having "Austin of England" on the bonnet. I was born in England of English parents and English grandparents, I believe thst gives me the right to be called English and not a "Brit".

GOOD FOR THEM

I would have been out with my St George flag with the rest of them if I had been in England (and I am Scottish). It is high time to stand up and be counted in this loony leftwing PC controlled country.

Just being picky 'cos that's what I do best.
What has George got to do with Britain? He's English through and through by adoption.

JUST ONE PARTY ...

I already knew about this news item, as it had been covered on the website of the British National Party.
I can find no mention of it on the websites of either Labour, the Conservatives, the LibDems, or UKIP.
I would add that the BNP is, so far as I know, the only party which celebrates patron saint days of all four of our national patron saints.
I merely observe the fact.

No, just observe over a wider area, IT'S JUST TWO PARTIES! In this area the local UKIP branches mark the day every year.

AT LAST

Well done to Boris Johnson and let's hope his ideas are taken up in the rest of the country.
At last we've got the chance to celebrate England and out patron saint.
And I hope that everyone else will join in as well.
