Marilyn, whose real name is Peter Robinson, is to reveal more about the relationship (which Rossdale insists was a friendship) in an autobiography.

Brit rocker Gavin, 43, hung out with transvestite singer Marilyn during the Eighties. Marilyn, 46, alleges he and Gavin had a five-year romance. He also claims he has not had sex since splitting with former Bush front man Rossdale.

Marilyn, whose hits included Calling Your Name, says: “He (Gavin) was the love of my life. We were together five years. But it felt like 40. I’m halfway through my autobiography and will release it this year. So you’ll finally be able to read the whole story/truth for once.”

Gavin has been with Gwen for 13 years and they married in 2002.

Marilyn moans in a newsletter to fans: “You can shed a few tears over my non-existent love life, of which 20 years celibacy is really starting to get on my nerves. Thought I had a really good partner lined up (Well you can’t ‘blame’ me, after the ‘love’ aspects of having someone like Gavin, which is the main reason I’ve not even been near the thought of anything along those kind of lines since).”

Boy George first claimed in his 1995 autobiography that Gavin and Marilyn had been an item.

At the time Gavin denied it, saying: “I wasn’t dating Marilyn. We were, and still are, good friends.” Marilyn also denied the claims so Gavin’s career wouldn’t be affected. “He was just becoming successful in America. I agreed to lie against every grain of my being.”

While Gavin found success in America, Marilyn faded into obscurity.

Marilyn, who was a guest at Rossdale’s wedding, now lives quietly with his mother in North London.
