The ever-graceful actress who turned 51 this week claims that, bizarrely, as she gets older her male co-stars get younger.

A case in point is her latest film Cheri, in which she shares steamy scenes with Keira Knightley’s real-life beau, 27-year-old Rupert Friend.

“It’s interesting, the older I get the younger they get,” she tells GMTV. “When I was younger they were all 50 and 60. I’m going to stop there though. I’m heading into dangerous territory if I get any younger.”

On sharing romantic scenes with fresh-faced Rupert, she adds: “In the beginning it was a little unnerving but I got used to it. It wasn’t so bad.”

But there are signs her years in the business are taking their toll, such as her disdain for lavish film parties. “I don’t enjoy going to premieres,” she sighs. “I don’t really like crowds .”
