STARKEY: ‘We’d be better off under Henry VIII’

BRITAIN is ruled “more incompetently than ever before” thanks to Gordon Brown’s bungling leadership, historian Dr David Starkey said yesterday.

KING Starkey believes Brown is behaving like King Gordon KING: Starkey believes Brown is behaving like 'King Gordon'

The academic and TV presenter lashed out at “King Gordon” by comparing the Prime Minister’s governance to the Dark Ages.

He said Britain was ruled more competently and had a better education system under Henry VIII, left.

And he said Mr Brown could learn from the Tudor monarch’s rule – which saw success rewarded and failure punished. Speaking at the annual Brighton College education conference, he said cheats should never be given high office and it was “intolerable that people ruining companies have got away with fortunes”.

He said: “Our education system has been taken over…by the worst examples of narrow-mindedness and bean-counting.

“I would put forward a modest proposition that we were very much better governed by Henry VIII than we are by King Gordon.”
