CRUCIAL MONTH AHEAD: Madjid Bougherra

Tuesday May 5,2009

By Gary Keown

RANGERS ace Madjid Bougherra has branded the four-week fight for end-of-season silverware as the biggest month of his entire life.

The 26-year-old defender returns from suspension for Saturday’s Old Firm crunch at Ibrox and is determined to help the Gers to a league and cup double after spending seven years in senior football without winning a single thing.

The former Crewe, Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday man admits he can barely contain his excitement over the closing stages of the SPL campaign and wants to round off a memorable debut season north of the border with Scottish Cup success over Falkirk on May 30.

Bougherra said: “We have a big month ahead with the cup final on one hand and the title on the other. The end of the season is going to be big and every one of the games will be like a cup final.

“I think this is the best month of my life and I have to enjoy it and do my best.I want the title too much.

“Every player wants to win a title, but I have never won anything before and it is my dream to win things this season.

“I can’t really explain it. We just have to wait.”

With Rangers strapped for cash and desperate to rake in money from the transfer market this summer, Bougherra has been tipped for a move to the English Premiership or the French League.

The Algerian internationalist, however, has made it clear he is relishing life in Scotland and is in no rush to leave.

He said: “I came here with nothing to lose and I am with a big club, so I hope I can do something here. I love the culture and the fans here. I am enjoying my life and my football.

“I have found people to be very respectful. Every time my family come here, it feels very comfortable and I am very pleased with the way it has gone.”

Bougherra has also paid tribute to Rangers captain David Weir over the job he has done in helping him settle into Scottish football.

He said: “It is the first time I have played with a player who has such experience. He offers me advice in everything I do and he has helped me so much.
