SUN IS COMING… BUT YOU’LL BE BACK AT WORK

Monday May 5,2008

David Gibbs

WOULDN’T you just know it. Cloud will swathe most of the country for the Bank Holiday – then, when we’re back at work, the sun will come out.

The temperature may have been nudging the 70s yesterday but there was a typical British holiday feel to the weather – with most of the country overcast.

Millions of day trippers were expected to visit the seaside over the weekend but not many of them were likely to see blazing sunshine.

It didn’t deter hardy Britons yesterday though as thousands thronged beaches at resorts like Southsea where two-year-old Hannah Freeland, seen in our picture, left, was not letting anything stop her from enjoying her day on the beach.

Forecasters warn that although it will remain warm and muggy, cloud will stubbornly remain over England and Wales with a chance of showers in the West Country.

The best of the good weather will come on Tuesday and Wednesday which are expected to be dry with sunny spells and temperatures into the high 70s.

Andy Bodenham, of the Met Office, said: “The forecast starts to look bright as we go back to work.

“From Tuesday through to Thursday there will be quite a bit of sunshine and warm temperatures due to warm air coming from the Continent.”

Despite the lack of sun, the roads were busy yesterday – not helped by a series of accidents on motorways. The RAC said last night: “We’ve seen busier roads than anticipated and we’re expecting more of the same tomorrow.”
