SIR Alex Ferguson has won the League Managers’ Association manager of the year award following Manchester United’s second league title in a row- their 10th under Ferguson.

Sir Alex received the award from England coach Fabio Capello and says that he is flattered to receive the award from his peers in the game.

He said: "It is a tremendous honour that my fellow managers should deem me worthy of this award.

"I'm very proud to receive it."

The 66-year-old Scot takes the Red Devils to Moscow next week for the first ever all-English Champions League final with Chelsea and Ferguson believes that their last day title success will give United the edge in Russia.

He said: "The mood generated by the win puts us in a very confident position.

"I expect my players to have the ability and confidence to play on the biggest stage in the world; of that I have absolutely no doubt."

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray won the Championship manager of the year award after guiding the Baggies to the title.

Swansea manager Roberto Martinez won the League One gong and Graham Turner lifted the League Two award after taking Hereford to automatic promotion.
