CAZALS: WHAT OF OUR FUTURE

Wednesday May 21,2008

Emily Garnham for express.co.uk

PETE Doherty’s cockney mates are being branded as the new indie heroes, pedalling ‘guitar-dance-pop’.

They are self-managed (by guitarist Daniel Gallagher) and have been signed by an ultra hip independent French label Kitsune.

Appearances can be deceptive. What Of Our Future doesn’t pack the initial meaty musical punch I was hoping for.  But it gets better and better.

To their credit the band has successfully revived Spandau Ballet’s first single, To Cut a Long Story Short.

Penultimate track Both Sides is climatic and punctuated with hints of electro. Never are the Cazals reliant on their vocals, which draws attention to hooky bass guitar riff.

And the album’s closer Time Of Our Lives with its gravely vocals and near perfect guitar work proves that we can expect great things from the Cazals.

OUR VERDICT: 3/5
