SONY HD HANDYCAM

Friday June 6,2008

Emily Garnham for express.co.uk

I'VE ALWAYS fancied myself as an auteur, so I decided to unleash the Hitchcock in me by testing the Sony High Definition Handycam.

The model I tested was the HDR-SR5E and since its release it has been replaced - like a man having a mid-crisis- by three younger, sexier models.

But I was very impressed by this compact and ultra stylish little camcorder, despite the fact in techno years it’s a great-grandparent.

With its 40GB hard drive memory and high definition recording format and optimum picture quality it will show up all your freckles.

The battery lasts for hours and even a techno-phobe like myself could use it with no fuss.

With the flick of a switch you can take still photographs before reverting back to film mode and the touch-screen pad is clear and uncluttered.

Because of its size, it is easy to hold steady – leaving your other hand free to flap around and direct with.

The built-in microphone is sensitive enough to pick up surround sound and you can even put it in slow-mo record mode.

It seems this camera has been designed with the user in mind – a smart move by the brains at Sony and I shall certainly be using it again.
