DOCUMENTARY: BRITS WHO MADE THE MODERN WORLD: FORMULA ONE, 7.30PM, FIVE

Friday June 20,2008

PETER SNOW presents this first in a series of six fascinating programmes about daring Brits who are behind our modern advances in technology.

Tonight’s episode looks at the humble beginnings of the Formula One industry and the scientists and mechanics behind the Lotus 25 which revolutionised motor racing and gave a certain cool to 1960s Formula One.

Snow tracks down designer Colin Chapman and engineer Len Terry, the force behind this legendary racing car, who reveal the real story behind British car construction.

Over the course of this series, Snow will also learn about the jet that helped win the Falklands War and hear from two teenage whizzkids who teamed up with a 13th-century mathematician to create the world’s first 3D computer game.
