RECORDS FALL AT US TRIALSMonday June 30,2008 Six-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff both set new 400metre individual medley world records at the US Olympic trials in Omaha. Phelps broke his own world record with a time of four minutes 05.22 seconds to secure his place in Beijing alongside runner-up Ryan Lochte.
"I was fired up for the finals, and I just went out there and did what I could to get my hand on the wall first," said Phelps. In the women's individual medley, Hoff set a new record (4:31.12) as she finished ahead of 15-year-old Elizabeth Beisel. |
