In a shock to many Great British Bake Off fans, Manon Legreve left the Bake Off tent last night.

Many were expecting Rahul Mandal to go after the usually strong baker had a terrible week.

However, on last night's show, which aired at 8pm on Channel 4, Manon got criticised for al of her Danish bakes feeling very French.

Meanwhile, Ruby Bhogal was named Star Baker for the first time.

Who left Bake Off?

Manon Lagreve was the eighth contestant to leave The Great British Bake Off 2018

Manon made it to the quarterfinals, narrowly missing securing a place in the semi-finals taking place next week (Tuesday, October 23).

For the first time ever on Bake Off, the bakers tackled Danish Week and unfortunately, Manon’s showstopper failed to win the judges over.

She struggled with the Danish pastry to make her kagemand and instead, made the base of her kagemand more like a French pain au chocolate, which judge Paul Hollywood was quick to point out.

After her emotional exit, Manon said: “I’ve learned so much. I’m a stronger baker. Hopefully a stronger person.”

Fans of the show took to Twitter to express their shock that Manon, who was Star Baker in week one, did not make the semi-finals.

Many are divided over her exit.

Fellow contestant on the show, Rahul Mandal, was even confused that he was not the one to leave after he struggled at every round during Danish week.

One fan on Twitter wrote: “WHAT NO? I love Rahul but he was last in every single challenge! How did he stay over Manon? This isn’t fair imo. #GBBO”

Whilst another said: “She kept baking French but at least her food wasn’t dubbed “inedible” by the judges.”

Through to the semi-finals next week are:

▪ Ruby Bhogal

▪ Rahul Mandal

▪ Briony Williams

▪ Kim-Joy

What happened in Bake Off last night?

For the first time ever in Bake Off history, the bakers were faced with Danish Week.

Following the struggles of Noel Fielding’s Vegan Week, the bakers had to overcome Danish week, specifically chosen by host Sandi Toksvig.

Toksvig was born in Denmark to a Danish father and British mother.

For the first challenge, the contestants had to make rye bread open sandwiches, known as smørrebrød.

For the technical challenge, the bakers were put through their paces making Danish pancake balls, known as æbleskiver.

The bakers had to bake a kagemand which translates to cake man for the showstopper round.

A Kagemand is a large decorated pastry, at least 40cm long and in the shape of a person.

Choux pastry is used to help keep the shape of the kagemand but the bakers were also able to use a Danish party base instead or a cinnamon bun recipe.
