EastEnders' Sonia Jackson faces painful past as Reiss Clowell demands answers

EastEnders' Sonia Jackson and Reiss Clowell have already been on quite the journey since they started dating, and now the couple want to start a family.

Michelle Collins reveals why she left EastEnders

' Sonia Jackson (played by Natalie Cassidy) will be forced to confront her past after questions from boyfriend Reiss Clowell (Jonny Freeman).

Sonia has been a staple of Albert Square for decades, but Reiss is relatively new to Walford and doesn't know everything about Sonia's dramatic history.

In upcoming episodes of the soap, Reiss is shocked to learn Sonia was once imprisoned for murder.

The revelation comes as she sympathises with Kathy Beale's (Gillian Taylforth) plight.

Reiss continues to question Sonia throughout the day before she snaps and orders him home so she can reveal all.

Long-term EastEnders fans will remember Sonia was arrested for murder back in early 2007 when Pauline Fowler (Wendy Richard) was killed.

It came as Sonia's former mother-in-law got involved with her relationship with Martin Fowler (James Alexandrou, now James Bye).

An argument between the two women saw Sonia slapping Pauline, and she was found dead later that day.

Fearing it was her fault, Sonia fled with her daughter after discovering the youngster had witnessed the slap.

Days later, Sonia returned and was arrested for murder, but later Pauline's real killer was revealed as her husband Jow Macer (Ray Brooks).

It turned out he'd argued with Pauline on Christmas Day before striking her over the head, which killed her.

Although Sonia hadn't murdered Pauline, could her historic arrest be enough to deter Reiss from starting a family with her?

The couple have faced a few hurdles since their relationship began, but it seems there's still a lot they don't know about each other.

Sonia still has no idea Reiss was able to afford their IVF treatment because he took the money from his wife's bank account.

Reiss' wife Debbie lives in a care home as she has been in a coma for years following a traumatic stroke.

Will the couple finally spill all their secrets to one another, or could they end up splitting because of them?

EastEnders continues on Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
