HUH: Brothers transform one-bedroom London flat

Homes Under The Hammer viewers were left unimpressed by an epic transformation that saw a London property with a guide price of £195,000 end up worth an eye watering £1 million. Host Tommy Walsh visitied the property prior to auction and it was in a pretty grim state.

It hadn't been lived in for two years and aside from the dated decor there were a lot of issues with the property. Upon entering the kitchen Tommy remarked on the size but admitted that was the only positive thing he could say about it.

"I know this has been empty for two years this flat but look at that cooker. That is in a shocking state. I think that is probably the worst most unclean cooker I've ever seen."

He concluded that there was nothing that could be salvaged and that the property and that everything would need to be ripped back to the bare brickwork. He also highlighted the fact that there were a mere 78 years left on the leasehold which would need to be taken into account.

This didn't deter two property developer brothers who purchased the proeprty for over double the guide price. They admitted they planned to spend around £150-£200,000 on renovating the property.

The average price of a flat in the area is around £1 million and it was estimated that after renovation they could gt up to £900,000 for the proeprty. If they were thinking of renting it the valuation was around £3,000 per calendar month.

The flat also benefitted from a fantasic location jut half a mile from Pimlico tube station and a mile from the Thames. When the team revisited the property it was unrecognisable and the brothers proudly showed it off.

They had knocked through walls so the kitchen and living room were now open plan. The garish and dated flithy yellow kitchen was now full of black marble.

Black marble was also a feature in the bathroom and was used in the living room. They had also sorted out the leasehold which is now for 999 years.

The original valuer was impressed with the makeover saying they could easily get £1 million for the flat. He also increased the rental expectatio to £4,000 per month. However viewers were not nearly as impressed and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to make their feelings known.
