GMB: Charlotte tells Richard Madeley he should have his spin-off show

Richard Madeley was urged to host a 'spin-off' show by his Good Morning Britain co-host Charlotte Hawkins during the latest instalment of the ITV news programme.

The presenting duo were sharing tips about looking after bunches of tulips on the show as the flowers are now cropping up in shops as May approaches.

Richard, 67, revealed he's a great fan of flowers and has glasses with tulips dotted around his home, which he shares with his wife Judy Finnigan.

He then shared tips about making the flowers last longer in a vase, telling viewers that adding a coin into the water can allegedly help.

Adding lemonade to a vase was another suggestion, leaving co-host Charlotte impressed with his insight.

Richard shared: "Someone didn't believe me that I love tulips so much that I have 16 vases of them in our house.

"I took pictures of them just to prove it and I mentioned earlier that a way of keeping them going for a bit longer is to put a penny or a 2p coin in the water."

Viewers wrote into Good Morning Britain with their tips, with one saying the stem should be pierced with a fine needle just behind the flower head.

Charlotte, 48, told Richard he should start his own "spin-off show" about gardening, with the latter seeming interested in the idea.

However, some viewers were not impressed with the pair taking time to discuss flowers during the ITV news programme.

One disgruntled viewer penned: "I'm out ...20mins of #GMB as the world tears itself apart Richard has chucked out his poinsettias and bought tulips ..."(sic)

After Richard shared photographs of his flowers around his house, another wrote: "Richard's sills and windows need some professional attention #gmb."

The rest of the programme focused on a school stabbing in Wales which left two teachers and a pupil injured.

Elsewhere, the hosts discussed two horses from the force in London running riot through the capital yesterday.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays between 6am and 9am on ITV and ITVX.
