has revealed that he told that 'he needs to stay tonight' to celebrate his maiden Grand Prix victory on the streets of Miami.

After a promising start to the Miami Grand Prix weekend in sprint qualifying, Norris' event started to unravel but after a rapid start to the feature race on Sunday, he found himself leading on the alternate strategy.

When Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant crashed and brought out the safety car, Norris inherited the race lead and from there, he stamped his authority on the field.

The 24-year-old stretched out a lead of over seven seconds to Verstappen behind him. The reigning world champion had no response to Norris' pace as he crossed the line to take McLaren's first Grand Prix victory since the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 after the race, Hamilton said: "Honestly I feel really happy for Lando, I just told him that he needs to stay tonight."

Hamilton was then asked whether he'd told his fellow Brit to change his flight home. He responded: "He's going to try to change his flight. He's got to! He just won a race.

"Such a special moment to win your first Grand Prix and obviously I started at McLaren so [I'm] really happy to see them back at the top. It's been a long time."

Hamilton wasn't the only driver to celebrate Norris' win. Former team-mate and close friend Carlos Sainz - who is the only other driver to beat Verstappen this season - also had some kind words.

"He deserves it for such a long time to win a race," he told Sky Sports F1. "He's a driver that will win many races in F1. "He's been driving at an exceptional level. Today he was on the lucky side but luck comes to people who deserve it and today he definitely deserves it."
