Before the Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen's dominance in Formula 1 seemed to get the better of him as he took a cheeky jibe at the British drivers.

Lando Norris's win at the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday has left Max Verstappen with egg on his face. The Dutch driver, dominant with Red Bull at the moment, made a cheeky remark about British drivers winning races.

Before the race, Verstappen connected with friends and fans on Twitch while gaming. In a video filmed during his time in China for the Grand Prix last weekend, he lightheartedly teased his British F1 competitors about their lack of race wins. As the British national anthem played in the background while playing EA FC with friends, Verstappen said, "Haven't heard that one in a while!"

Verstappen soon found the British anthem ringing in his ears on race day as Norris clinched his inaugural Formula 1 win in commanding style. Norris led for a significant portion of the latter half of the race, crossing the finish line seven seconds ahead of Verstappen in second place.

This victory marked Norris's breakthrough after 110 race starts and McLaren's first triumph in the United States since 2012. Despite coming close to victory on previous occasions, Norris had never secured the top spot until now. Speaking to the media afterward, Norris acknowledged his near misses in claiming first place.

"About time!” said Norris. "What a race. It’s been a long time coming, but finally I’ve managed to do it. I’m so happy for my whole team, I finally delivered for them. A long day, tough race, but finally on top so I’m over the moon."

"I knew on Friday we had the pace, just a couple of mistakes here and there, but today we managed to put it together. We put the perfect strategy [together], it all paid off. Thanks to McLaren, everyone, and have to give a shout out to my mum and dad of course."

Verstappen admitted that Norris had rightfully earned the hard-fought victory and expressed genuine happiness for the driver in his post-race interview. He also noted that this win wouldn't be Norris's last in his career.

Verstappen also candidly acknowledged the challenges he encountered on the track that hindered his chances of clinching the win. He said, "Today was a bit tricky. I think already on the medium [tires] it didn’t feel fantastic. We were pulling away but not like it should be. Then once we made a pit stop, I heard what the lap times McLaren were doing, and I was like, ‘Well, that’s pretty quick!’.

"Once then they also switched onto the hard tire, they just had more pace, especially Lando he was flying," he continued."It was incredibly difficult for us on that stint but if a bad day is P2 I take it."

In the current standings for the Drivers' Championship, Verstappen leads with 136 points, followed by Sergio Perez in second with 101 points. Charles Leclerc holds third place with 98 points, while Carlos Sainz follows closely in fourth with 85 points.

Norris rounds out the top five with 83 points. The next event in the Formula 1 season is the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, set to take place on May 19 at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
