Luka Modrić wins UEFA's Men's Player of the Year award
Modric is on the three-man shortlist for FIFA’s The Best gong, joined by former Los Blancos team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah.
Modric shone as Real won their third Champions League title in succession last season while the former tottenham man was also a key part of the Croatia side which reached the World Cup final.
Croatia couldn’t back up their stunning showing in Russia as they were thrashed 6-0 by Spain in the Nations League last night.
It was a Croatia side that contained just four of those who started the World Cup final against France.
And Modric is adamant that a successful team is more important than any individual prize.
"For me, the important thing is the collective,” Modric said.
“Winning the prize is not what obsesses me the most.
“If I do not win it, nothing happens."

But while Modric insists he’s not fussed over the award, his national team-mate Ivan Rakitic believes the Real Madrid man should lift the gong.
"There are seasons that you can be better or not," Rakitic said.
"For me in general the best player of the world and maybe the greatest of all time is Leo Messi. It's easy, you take a boy, and nine of 10 boys are gonna say the same.
