Tammy Abraham: Jack Grealish was key in Aston Villa move
Aston Villa moved to sign Abraham from Chelsea as they seek promotion to the Premier League under Steve Bruce this season.
The youngster previously took the Championship by storm with Bristol City, scoring 26 goals from 48 outings.
The now Aston Villa loanee spent last year at Swansea but toiled, and returned to Chelsea having managed just eight goals as they were relegated from the top flight.
Ashton has told Express Sport that he thinks Abraham has the potential to be a huge hit at Villa Park.
But the former Norwich and West Ham hitman also thinks Villa should have signed a centre-back instead.
“I think he’s a good signing,” Ashton, who is a studio guest for the EFL on Quest highlights, also available via QuestOD, said.
“He showed during his time in the Championship with Bristol City how good he can be at this level.
“He had a difficult season in the Premier League last year and found out just how tough that is.
“My only worry is, though, are scoring goals for Aston Villa really an issue?
“When it comes to that, they’re fine. Jonathan Kodjia is playing well and they’ve brought Yannick Bolasie in.

“But they have no cover at centre-back.
“I think they’ve lost every game with Mile Jedinak playing there. That doesn’t bode well.
“And they also loaned Tommy Elphick to Hull, so it surprises me they’ve signed two attacking players, Abraham and Bolasie.”
Aston Villa were able to beat Cardiff to sign Abraham.
