But since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge, the midfielder has seen a resurgence in his career.
He has played 11 games already for Chelsea this season and scored his first goal for the club in the 3-0 win at Southampton last Sunday.
And Scott says not being picked for the World Cup in the summer would have spurred the 24-year-old on.
“A player that’s full of confidence at the moment,” Scott said ahead of the Croatia clash, which Barkley started.
