Collymore, however, says a potential hangover from the Wenger years means he’s still reserving judgement.
He told The People: “In the end, he was just sprinkling 11 lovely footballers on to pitches and expecting them to get results.
“Emery is changing all that and, while I'm still not as convinced that Arsenal are the real deal in terms of title challengers, their 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend and the performance showed they are taking baby steps towards that once again.
“It was encouraging, very encouraging, and I haven't been able to say that about Arsenal for a while.

“Perhaps my reservations remain because I'd become brainwashed, almost, by Wenger's Arsenal.
“We knew they could play, we knew they could stuff teams and we knew they had ability.
“But we didn't know if they had the bottle to grind out results in those periods when things weren't always going for them.
“We don't yet know if Emery's Arsenal will have what's required in January, February or March, but the signs, for now at least, are good and the spine of the team looks very strong.”
