The Hammers’ long-term future is still in doubt due to the money concerns of new Icelandic owners CB Holdings and the club must also pay Sheffield United £20million in compensation for the Carlos Tevez affair.

Boss Zola had feared he would have to flog top stars such as Matthew Upson, Robert Green and Carlton Cole .

But the club’s new non-executive chairman Andrew Bernhardt insists there will be no firesale .

He said: “ The club is on sound financial footing. The wage bill has been reduced and the settlement with Sheffield is budgeted for.

‘‘ Gianfranco does not have to sell players for financial reasons and new players will be arriving in the summer .’’
