Man Utd: Transfer priority should be in midfield says Vidic
And he has told Ole Gunner Solskjaer he should think about snubbing Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld as a result.
The Belgium centre-back was a target last summer and United could look to tempt him again.
But Vidic thinks the midfield is more of a problem as the likes of Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling have impressed since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho.
The Manchester United hero did admit he would like to see Alderweireld at Old Trafford though.
He told Stadium Astro: “Of course, I would like to see him there.
“But I think the club has to have a priority.
“What I see is, if you want to be in the Champions League next season and challenge for the Premier League, you have to strengthen the midfield.
“You need that depth in the midfield area.

“In defence they already have five players, so they can rotate, and it seems like they’re doing well.”
United have suffered two straight defeats under Solskjaer for the first time.
They were dumped out of the FA Cup by Wolves on Saturday and the Norwegian was not happy with the performance of his side.
"I didn't think we had enough quality in the last third, enough combination play," Solskjaer said.
