Liverpool fans are to BLAME for their own team’s title failures - Andy Gray

LIVERPOOL supporters have to shoulder some of the blame for their team’s Premier League title failures.

Liverpool fans may play 'too much of a part' says Andy Gray

That is the opinion of beIN SPORTS pundit and former Everton striker Andy Gray.

Gray believes Liverpool fans can get too carried away and has warned them it could affect their team this season.

The Reds beat Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday to go back above Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool have six games remaining with City’s game in hand against Cardiff on Wednesday.

I know what you’re saying that they can be a great help when you want them to lift you, but maybe could the euphoria carry them away again?

Andy Gray on Liverpool supporters

Gray understands how much of a positive impact Liverpool fans can have on their team.

But he also reckons it could go the other way.

Gray brought up the memorable 2-0 loss to Chelsea back in 2014, known mostly for former captain Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip to gift the Blues a goal.

He says fans got carried away too much on that day and it cost their team.

“You talk about the fans, and they are incredible,” Gray said.

“But [they play] too much of a part maybe.

“I go back to Brendan’s time, Brendan Rodgers.

“We arrived to watch Chelsea arrive at Anfield and it was like a party almost wasn’t it.

“Liverpool fans had decided ‘this is our year, we’re winning the trophy and we’ll probably win it today, we’re going to blow away Chelsea and win’.

“Sometimes, I know what you’re saying that they can be a great help when you want them to lift you, but maybe could the euphoria carry them away again?”

Liverpool are back in action on Friday when they visit Southampton.
