Manchester United chief Woodward has been left shocked by Newcastle, who are demanding a massive £50million to let Longstaff go.
The midfielder is being eyed at a time where the Red Devils are getting desperate, having lost Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera in recent times.
Manchester United’s options in the middle of the park are looking slim at present as a result, with uncertainty over the futures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic also rife.
Yet the Evening Standard say Solskjaer is reluctant to go above £25m for Longstaff this summer.

One player who won’t be moving to Old Trafford this summer is Youri Tielemans, who snubbed the Red Devils to join Leicester.
And he opened up on his thinking of Wednesday, saying: “I gave myself some time to think about it but after the international break it was clear to me I wanted to come [to Leicester].
“The second part of the season went very well for me and the team and I wanted to keep playing at a positive club with a lot of ambition and potential.
“I wanted to make pre-season with the club I was going to play for next season which is why we got the deal done and I’m really happy to be here.”
