Ex-manager David Moyes has been contacted to take temporary charge with former hero Tim Cahill as his assistant.
Apparently, the pair were ready to take over weeks ago but the move was postponed due to fan backlash.
Everton have spent heavily over recent years are were expected to be challenging for European football, instead they them find themselves in the thick of a relegation dogfight.
