Wayne Rooney brought ‘excitement’ to Man Utd says pundit
Of all the partnerships Manchester United have had in the Premier League era, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney may have been the best. The duo were simply sublime together under Sir Alex Ferguson, propelling the Red Devils to three Premier League titles as well as the Champions League crown. And if United sign Jadon Sancho and pair him with Marcus Rashford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may possess his own dynamic duo next season.

And, after the fight, things were never the same. In a good way.
The pair fired United to the Premier League title in 2007 - ending Jose Mourinho and Chelsea’s dominance of English football in the process.
And, the following year, they went one better.
Not only did United retain the title with a 2–0 win over Wigan on the final day of the season - they also won the Champions League for the first time in nearly a decade.
That season saw Ronaldo score 42 goals, with Rooney managing to find the net 18 times but playing a unselfish, significant role in their success.
United couldn’t retain the Champions League the following year.
But Ronaldo and Rooney’s sensational partnership still propelled them to the final, as well as another league title triumph.
They spent five years together - and three at the very, very top. Now, United are hoping to get their own Ronaldo-Rooney partnership this summer.
There’s an increasing optimism around Old Trafford that they’ll sign Sancho from Dortmund at the end of the season and pair him with Rashford in attack.
And, if that happens, United will have a partnership capable of propelling them to silverware aplenty.

That, certainly, is Solskjaer’s thinking.
The Norwegian wants his team to play with pace and potency, while also possessing a ruthless killer instinct to boot.
And Sancho, with 14 Bundesliga goals and 15 assists from 23 league games, would certainly represent a statement signing.
Pair him alongside Rashford and, if you throw in Anthony Martial, you have one of the best attacking tridents not just in England - but in the world as well.
And if they can be anywhere near as successful as Ronaldo and Rooney, the Red Devils may just end their agonising wait for another league title.
